HR Sexual Harrassment Date RE: Sexual Harassment Training - California Requirements Dear A new State of California law soon to be in effect will have an enormous impact on your business. You know it as California AB 1825. This legislation, which becomes effective on December 31, 2005, mandates that businesses provide sexual harassment training to supervisors. Non- compliance may result in a $35,000 penalty and possible lawsuits. Currently, more than 53 charges of sexual harassment are filed daily with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (E.E.O.C). According to E.E.O.C research the average jury award for a sexual harassment case is $250,000.00. Harassment is also responsible for low morale, poor employee retention and reduced productivity. How can you prevent sexual harassment in your company? Put a system in place that provides your supervisors with a minimum of two hours of sexual harassment training. This training must be repeated every two years. What must you do to prove compliance with AB 1825? The E.E.O.C. has set forth the following three objectives which employers must fulfill as evidence that employees have a safe, harassment-free, work environment: 1. Educate employees—Define harassing behavior and establish that it is not tolerated. What can you do right now?
